Any poor wayward soul who has yet to see/read where the wild things are by Maurice Sendak should do so. I am at present worshiping him and his talent.
I finally after many years of saying have decided to write and illustrate a children's book, and am finding the whole experience a true learning curve.
with childrens books it is not just a case of complimenting text with visual images, its about creating 34 pages with only 500 words that manage to convey a concise story that children can relate to learn from, understand and enjoy.
Its easy to think we know a child's mind, they like this, they hate that etc. but when you actually talk one to one with a child how often do you have to re-explain a point or stop to consider how best to state and idea.
Its only when you actually attempt something that you gain a complete respect for those that have gone before.
when i read Where the wild things are as a kid i was mesmerized and still am, anyone who can have such a impact on both young and old is a genius.
